Technology

At Al-Faisal College, we believe that every child should learn the fundamentals behind the technology that is shaping their future. The benefits are not just about the children engaging in technology in a meaningful way but in the new skills the children are learning that transfers across all STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The College has introduced a number of wonderful programs and initiatives to develop students' creative, problem solving, mathematical, computational and logical thinking skills.

Our Science programs have an inquiry-based focus that promotes a more investigative approach to teaching and learning. Students will have opportunities to become scientists, navigators and engineers, investigating problems and searching for plausible solutions. Students will be able to reflect and analyse what they have learnt by making connections, observations, asking questions, testing out ideas and thinking creatively.

All of our classrooms contain an Interactive whiteboard (IWB), which allows for optimum instruction and easy engagement with multimedia resources in all learning areas. Dedicated computer labs are also equipped with a class set of PCs and an IWB, with all classes utilising these facilities regularly. All students are encouraged and guided to be safe, skilful and savvy information technology users.

We aim for technology to be practical, purposeful and integrated into all areas of teaching and learning. Students this year will have an opportunity to use: Minecraft Education, 3D print using TinkerCAD, Scratch, Duolingo: Language App, Wix Web Design, Mind Map Maker, Tux Paint, Google Docs, Google Drawings, ePals, Explain Everything, Make Code, MS Word, MS Publisher, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and digital cameras. Across the primary years, the College also engages with external educational experts to run courses that are tightly integrated with the Australian curriculum providing lessons on learning to code, website design, 3D printing, building a Minecraft community, introduction to electronics, robotics and Digital Citizenship which promotes ethical and moral online behaviour, safety and use.
